Free Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising Credits

Pay Per Click advertising (or simply PPC Advertising) is an Internet Marketing model where advertisers pay only when their advertisement is clicked.

The most popular Pay Per Click advertising networks are Google AdWords, Bing Ads (formerly Microsoft adCenter and MSN adCenter), Yahoo Search Marketing, and Facebook Ads.

What’s interesting about the pay-per-click advertising model is that there’s no minimum spending requirement. For instance, you can set a daily budget of $5 and maximum cost per click (CPC) as 5 cents. And you pay only when someone clicks on your ad. It’s that simple!

Free Pay-Per-Click Advertising Credits

Start your Search Engine Marketing campaigns with free credits. Most of the pay-per-click advertising networks (Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, Microsoft adCenter, Facebook, Ask.com, BidVertiser, Miva, etc.) offer free ad credits to attract new customers. So here are the various PPC networks and their available free ad credits. Sign up today!

Keyword Analysis & Research Tools

Keyword research is the practice of finding search terms (known as keywords) that people enter in search engines to find relevant web pages. It’s a process that’s mostly done by Search Engine Optimization (SEO) professionals in order to create search engine friendly content.

On-Page SEO Analysis Tools

Today, Search Engine Optimization is all about user experience (UX). And it’s something that you have direct control over. If you focus on user experience then it’s less likely that you get hurt by a Google penalty. The following on-page SEO tools helps you to make your web pages more search-friendly.

Read: The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Handbook

Website Crawler

To identify potential issues on your web pages.

  1. Screaming Frog SEO Spider Tool (Freemium) — is a popular desktop program (PC or Mac) that crawls websites’ links, images, CSS, script and apps from an SEO perspective. You can optionally purchase a license for £99/year that removes the 500 URI crawl limit.

  3. Browseo — lets you view any web page like search engines see it.
  4. Beam Us Up — is a desktop software that finds broken links, missing page titles, duplicate content, and other problems on your web page.

Keyword Density

Keyword Density is the percentage of times a keyword or keyword phrase appears on a web page when compared to the total number of words in that page.

As the number of times a keyword appears in relation to the total number of words, the greater will be the keyword density of the page.

  1. DavidNaylor Keyword Density Tool — is not just a simple keyword density tool but it also shows different on-page stats.

  3. nTopic (Freemium) — is not exactly a keyword density tool but it analyze the content and helps you improve your content by including related keywords as well.

Note: Keyword Density is not a big deal today. It was a “thing” among SEOs when search engines used to rank pages based on keyword density. For example, back in early 2000s, it was easy to rank a web page by adding the relevant keywords to the URL, title, meta keyword & description tags, H1-H6 titles, content, etc. But it no longer works today as keyword density is just one of the 200+ search ranking signals (on Google).

Page Speed Performance

It’s no secret that faster websites create happy users, and results in increased user experience. And the best thing is, search engines incorporate page loading time as a search signal.

It basically means that faster web pages will outrank slow pages and the following tools will help you optimize your page speed.

Google AdWords

When I wrote the blogpost “How To Make Money Online With AdWords Without A Website” I got few comments and emails about whether Google AdWords allows direct linking.

That is, are we allowed to link directly to advertisers (using our affiliate URLs) from Google AdWords ads? In a word, Yes! But wait, they do have some advertising policies that every advertisers are supposed to follow.

According to Google,

Advertising should provide a positive experience to users. Showing users the right ads at the right time can truly enhance a user’s experience.

Google AdWords Affiliate Marketing Policies

First things first. I’m going to assume that you are a blogger and also an affiliate marketer.

Affiliate marketing is NOT dead on Google AdWords yet!

Google’s Affiliate Auction Policy

Google’s affiliate policy is that they will display only “one ad per search query for advertisers sharing the same top-level domain in the display URL.”

web hosting - Google Search

It means that if you’re an affiliate marketer and is promoting, let’s say GoDaddy.com, then your ad won’t be shown since ‘GoDaddy’ is a trademark owned by GoDaddy.com and they run the ads for almost everything related to domain names and web hosting.

For example,

godaddy coupon - Google Search

If you’re promoting GoDaddy Web Hosting (targeting the keyword ‘GoDaddy Coupon”) and are linking directly to GoDaddy.com from Google AdWords using your affiliate URL (e.g. http://www.godaddy.com/ref=12345) as the destination URL then according to Google the following URLs are equivalent:

  • http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/ref=54321

And the following URLs are considered distinct as they’re all different top-level domains:

Also, make sure that your landing page is not an exact/identical copy of another advertiser’s landing page.

Google won’t show multiple ads for identical or similar landing pages at the same time; if another advertiser’s ad leads to a landing page that’s similar to yours, and his keyword has a higher Ad Rank, his ad will show instead of yours.

Google’s Display URL Policy

In Google AdWords, the display URL (up to 35 characters) is the website address that’s displayed in your ad (i.e. the visible URL). AdWords’ display URL policy is that the domain of your display URL must match the final landing page (i.e. the web page a user sees after all redirects).

  • Your AdWords display URL must accurately reflect the URL of your final landing page URL.
  • You have to show the full domain name (example.blogger.com or example.wordpress.com) as the display URL when you are hosting your landing page on a publishing platform like blogger.com or wordpress.com.

For example,

If your destination URL is http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/ref=12345 and the final landing page URL is http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx then your display URL must be “godaddy.com” or “www.godaddy.com”.

Google’s Destination URL Policy

In Google AdWords, the destination URL is the URL that loads when a user clicks on your ad. Don’t get confused with landing page URL which is the final page a user sees after all redirects. If your destination URL doesn’t redirect to another URL then both the destination URL and the landing page URL are the same.

Google’s destination URL policy is that your landing page shouldn’t lead to an error page or an under construction page. Also, it must not lead to an email address or a file (image, audio, video, PDF documents etc.)

  • You have to use the same domain name in your display URL and destination URL. That is, you can’t promote example.com by showing example.net as the display URL.
  • Your domain extension in the display URL and the destination URL must be the same.

Google’s Landing Page Experience

In Google AdWords, the landing page experience refers to user experience. You can improve your Quality Score by improving the landing page experience.

The Quality Score is Google’s measurement of “how relevant your ads, keywords, and landing page are to a person seeing your ad”.

You can improve your Quality Score by writing relevant ads, creating original content and with easy website navigation.

Google AdWords Advertising: What’s Allowed, What’s Not

Here are the Google AdWords policies and guidelines every digital marketer should know.

  • All AdWords ads should be accurate, truthful and must not be misleading.
  • All advertising claims (coupons, special offers etc.) must be up-to-date and must match with the content of your website.
  • Your ad text must be clear, relevant, accurate and the targeted keywords must match with the content on the landing page.
  • Google AdWords doesn’t allow ad text with incorrect grammar (wrong words or verb tense) or misspellings (e.g. “hear” instead of “here”) with certain exceptions like “nite” instead of “night”, “info” instead of “information” etc.
  • You’re not allowed to give incentives in exchange for a click (e.g. offering a freebie something in exchange for a Google +1).
  • If you’re showing image ads then it must comply with Google’s text ad policies and should also comply with AdWords’ image ad policies.
  • If you are into financial services (e.g. payday loans) then your ad must comply with special policies as Google has certain guidelines with respect to promotion of financial services.
  • Google doesn’t allow ad texts with excessive capitalization unless it’s a standard variation (e.g. SONY, UK, 1-800-MICROSOFT, MSFT, etc.)
  • Google AdWords doesn’t allow ads that imply an affiliation, partnership, or any special relationship with advertisers.
  • You’re not allowed to use trademarks on your ad texts without prior consent from trademark owners.
  • You can bid on your competitor’s brand names.
  • Google AdWords doesn’t allow ads that promotes doorway pages.
  • You’re not allowed to advertise the same website or business from across multiple accounts targeting the same or similar keywords.
  • You are not allowed to host copyrighted material on your website unless you are authorized to do so.
  • Google AdWords doesn’t allow the promotion of parked domains (a domain monetized with only ads) or websites that are created for the sole purpose of showing ads. (i.e. AdSense AdWords Arbitrage is a strict no no).

Google AdWords Ad Approval Process

When you create an AdWords campaign it goes through an ad approval process. Each ad copy (ad text, keywords, landing page) is reviewed individually by Google.

If they find an issue, you will be notified with a possible reason for ad disapproval. Every time you create or modify an ad copy it will be reviewed.

Google says they usually approve or deny the ad within 3 business days. Usually, text ads targeting Google network are approved quickly (within hours or sometimes instantly as they’re automated) and image ads usually take longer since they are displayed on Google’s partner network and publisher websites.

Different  AdWords Ad Status Messages

Under review – Your ad is being reviewed and it won’t show unless it’s approved.

Eligible – Your ad is still being reviewed, but it can show on certain Google search result pages.

Disapproved – Your ads won’t show as it violates AdWords policy.

Approved (adult) – Your ad is approved, but it can only show in certain countries and sites where adult content is allowed.

Approved (non-family) – Your ad is approved, but it won’t perform as expected due to a policy restriction such as trademarks.

Approved (limited) – Your ad is approved, but it can only show in certain countries and devices where this type of content is allowed.

You can go here to see a list of all status and its definitions.

What Happens When You Violate AdWords Policies?

In most cases, when you violate AdWords’ terms and/or policies you will be given a warning with detailed information giving you an opportunity to make the necessary changes. If the requested changes are not made then your account will be suspended.

If your ad is disapproved then it means that the ad and/or keywords doesn’t comply with Google’s advertising policies. You need to identify the reason and get it fixed so that they will review the ad once again and will approve you.

If the domain name is disabled or the ad is suspended (most probably because of landing page or webmaster guidelines) then it means that your website violates Google’s advertising policies and/or webmaster policies and can no longer be advertised until you fix the problem.

Finally, if your AdWords account is suspended (can be temporary or permanent) then all your ads will be suspended and you’re no longer allowed to advertise on AdWords. All the related accounts (and future accounts) will be suspended automatically.

Note: Once your account is suspended permanently it’s pretty difficult to get a manual reply from Google.

You visit a shopping website and soon its ads are everywhere you go — on your favorite blog, on news portal, and even on your Facebook. No, it isn’t magic. They’re all retargeted ads. Today, retargeted ads are so popular that it’s everywhere on the web — on Facebook, on Twitter, and even on your favorite blogs and websites.

Retargeting: What Is It? And Why Retarget?

Retargeting (also known as Remarketing) is a form of online advertising in which you’re targeting users who previously visited your website (but is visiting other websites), and left without taking an action.

Why should you retarget users? The reason is… less than 5% of the first time visitors convert to customers. If you have an e-Commerce website and you used a pay-per-click campaign to attract targeted users, then it’s more likely that they will leave your website without buying or signing up.

The bounced visitors may come back to your website once again or maybe they won’t. So you can target those users once again by showing retargeted ads and that makes it easier for them to find you.

Meet Perfect Audience

Perfect Audience

Perfect Audience is an ad platform that allows advertisers to retarget users across the Web, Facebook and Twitter. It allows advertisers to follow-up with their website visitors who didn’t take a desired action on their website — like when a user didn’t buy a product after adding it to the shopping cart. In that case, you can remarket the product to the same user on Facebook or by showing a banner ad across the web.

Unlike a regular Facebook Ad campaign, you don’t have to select locations or demographic or anything like that. The ads will automatically be shown to the people who have been to your website once. And it’s even possible to retarget users who have previously visited specific pages on your website.

So, if at first they didn’t buy your product then you can retarget them by showing the ads again — maybe with a sweetened deal.

How Does Perfect Audience Work

When you sign up for a Perfect Audience account you have to add their “site tracking tag” to all your webpages. This tracking tag automatically places a cookie in all your website visitors’ browser so that they can be tracked anonymously.

That way, you’re building your “retargeting list” which will be used by Perfect Audience to show retargeted ads to your potential customers as they browse the web.

5 Steps To Start Your First Retargeting Campaign

Retargeting can gain a bad reputation if you’re trying to retarget the wrong audience (especially on Facebook). You can check out some best practises for running a Facebook retargeting campaign here.

1. Start Your Free Trial

Sign up for a free Perfect Audience account. You’ll immediately be directed to a welcome screen where you have to select the type of your website. Enter the name of your website and its URL to get started. The first ad campaign is free for 2 weeks or until it reaches $100 in ad spend (whichever happens first).

Select the type of your Website

And then you will be directed to the Perfect Audience Dashboard where you will be able to review the stats of your campaigns when it goes live.

Perfect Audience Dashboard

It shows a quick snapshot of your retargeting campaigns. Before you can start a retargeting campaign you have to install the “site tracking tag” and must have at least 1,000 cookied users.

2. Install The “Site Tracking Tag”.

Install Perfect Audience Site Tracking Tag

If your website is powered by WordPress then you can install the official Perfect Audience Plugin. Drupal users can download the Perfect Audience Module and install on your Drupal website. And if you’re using a third-party e-Commerce software like Shopify, Volusion, 3D Cart, or Goodsie then go here for help.

3. Set Up Conversion Tracking

Set Up Perfect Audience Conversion Tracking

Conversion tracking is about defining a “Conversion Goal”. It’s an event (e.g. a lead or sale) that you want your visitors to take when they visit your website. Conversions are tracked based on the URLs of your website.

For instance, when a customer completes a purchase they’re usually taken to a “Thank you!” or confirmation page. So you’re going to use its URL for tracking. Now, if a “Thank you” page is missing or you’re using another technique then you have to use the Visitor Tracking API.

Perfect Audience Conversion Goal

Go to: Dashboard > Manage > Conversions to create your first “Conversion Goal”.

4. Create Retargeting Lists

When you add the Perfect Audience tracking tag you’re actually creating a list of users who have visited your website. If you have already placed the site tracking tag then Perfect Audience will automatically create your first Retargeting List named “All visitors”.

Perfect Audience Retargeting Lists

You can go to:  Dashboard > Manage > Retargeting Lists to see your retargeting list and its number of cookied users. You can then create additional retargeting lists so that you can retarget users based on specific criteria.

Creating A New Retargeting List

For example, you can retarget users who have visited specific pages (like example.com/deals/) or inner pages under a sub-directory (like example.com/men/* or example.com/women/*).

5. Starting Your Retargeting Campaign

Now it’s time to create your first retargeting campaign and (assuming that you have placed the tracking tag and reached the minimum 1,000 cookied users).

Perfect Audience New Campaign

With Perfect Audience, you can create the following types of campaigns: Web Retargeting (to retarget your lost users when they’re browsing other websites), Dynamic Retargeting (to automatically show ads based on the pages your visitors have viewed), Twitter Retargeting (to reach your visitors on Twitter web and mobile apps), and Facebook Retargeting (to reach your visitors on Facebook as ads on the sidebar or newsfeed).

Since it’s a test campaign I’m going to try Facebook Sidebar Campaign. If you’re trying Facebook News Feed Retargeting then make sure that you have connected your Facebook page to Perfect Audience.

If you have previously tried Facebook Ads then you know that it involves few steps like creating ads, defining audience, setting budget etc. Likewise, you have to complete the following steps to start your retargeting campaign on Facebook.

Define Your Audience

Launching A New Facebook Campaign On Perfect Audience

It’s true that you already have a retargeting list, still you’ll  get a chance to filter those users based on their location. Also, if you have multiple retargeting lists then you can include or exclude them individually.

Create Your Ad

Create Ads On Perfect Audience

You can create a new Facebook ad by entering a Title, Description, Target URL and by adding an image (of dimension 600×315). When showing retargeted ads it’s a good practice to rotate ads to avoid annoying your readers.

Set Budget, Pricing, Schedule

Set Budget

The minimum weekly budget for a retargeting campaign is $25. You can set up to 3 conversion goals per campaign.

Perfect Audience is a CPM ad network so you’re paying for every 1,000 page views. There are two types of bidding: Optimized Bidding and Manual Bidding. If you want Perfect Audience to get the widest reach as possible, then set “Optimized Bidding”.

And if you want to control your spending, then go for “Manual Bidding” (but will be available only when you complete the free trial).

Enter Your Billing Information

Perfect Audience Billing Information

Enter the billing information to verify your identity (you won’t be charged) and you’re done. You’ll immediately get an email confirmation about your free trial. The campaign will start serving ads when it’s approved (provided you have cookied 1,000 users).

And when you exceed your free credit you’ll get an email notification and will be charged for additional usage (if the campaign is not paused).

Conclusion

Perfect Audience Active Dashboard

Honestly, the first time I tried Perfect Audience was a couple of years back, when I wanted to see if it would work for affiliate marketing. I did that because I liked the idea of “Retargeting,” and I really thought I would be able to generate some affiliate sales by retargeting users who once visited an advertiser’s website. 😀

Then I realized that retargeting can’t be used for affiliate marketing as it involves “tracking tags”. My first retargeting campaign doomed as I didn’t have any digital product to promote.

But now I know what a powerful marketing channel it could be, and how super easy it is to kick-start a retargeting campaign on the web. So, yes, very soon I’ll be creating my “real” remarketing campaign.

Happy Retargeting! :)

Landing Pages

A Landing Page is a web page, specifically designed for just one purpose at a time. It can be used for lead generation, could be a simple Call To Action that instructs the user to subscribe to a newsletter or to download an ebook, or to do something similar. It can involve images, videos, audio or just a few paragraphs.

Think of a golf course… a landing page is the putting green that you drive the ball (prospect) to. Once on the green, the goal is to get the ball into the hole. Likewise, the goal of the copy and design of a landing page is to get the prospect to take your desired action.
